Almost every sheathing compound, from PVC to polyethylene to Teflon, is at least as water resistant. This is where the so-called waterproof cables come from. It really depends on how much time they spend in the water, and what kind of exposure they may have.
Water can easily pass through the most common cable sheath material, polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Underwater cables with PVC sheaths can take weeks or months to fail. The first step toward long-term water resistance is to use a better sheath material, such as polyethylene (PE). This is more waterproof, especially if it is high-density PE, and can last for months or even years underwater. But you can also take the additional step of specifying the cable with a "waterproof" layer. The first step toward long-term water resistance is to use a better sheath material, such as polyethylene (PE). This is more waterproof, especially if it is high-density PE, and can last for months or even years underwater.
There are two types of water resistance: dry and gel. The dry water barrier is another layer in the cable that sits under the sheath but above all other parts. It is an impregnated cloth that is wrapped around the core of the cable. If there are holes or cuts in the jacket and water comes in contact with this layer, it swells up and holds back the water. Because it is just a layer of cloth, it has no effect on the performance of the cable or the connector. Simply cut off the excess layer and put on the power connector as usual. Generally speaking, your electric car and EV will be charged indoors, and even in the event of rain, the power cable will not be completely submerged in water because it will be covered by the housing, so this level of waterproofing is generally sufficient.
If that's not enough, you can always ask for the ultimate waterproofing: gel. This material is added to the braided shield or extruded on top of the foil shield. Because it is a gel, it tends to flow and fill any gaps or openings that appear. But a gel-filled water barrier is difficult to apply. After stripping the cable, the gel must be removed before the connector can be put on. You can use special wipes for this purpose to remove the gel, such as an alcohol wipe or a citrus wipe.
GRANT makes many waterproof cables. Our web page shows many of our waterproof cables and you are welcome to visit. The batteries of electric bicycles are capable of delivering large amounts of current in a short period of time. Good design requires that a fuse or circuit breaker be installed within a few inches of the battery to protect the wiring, the battery and, in some cases, body parts from damage. Many common fuses fall short of the voltage or current ratings required by electric bicycles. Fuses should be located close to the battery to provide maximum protection.
